buying a fan in skopje

When it was very hot in Skopje (close to 40C) for few days in last week, I really needed a fan in my bed room. Although I have an air-conditioner in the living room, my apartment is too big for the air-con to cover other rooms. SO, I went to buy a fun. I did not expect that it is going to be so difficult to buy a fan in Skopje, because in NY you can buy it everywhere, like a hardware store at the corner. Well, but that is not the case in Skopje. It was a veeery hot day and we had to visit 6-7 electric appliance stores, which sell air-conditioners and rich audio sets and other advanced technology stuff, as no one sells a fan. We could not find it at all anywhere until we finally met with this small Albanian general merchandise store in the other side of Skopje. It is amazing that no one sells a fan, whereas it is much cheaper than an aid-conditioner. How are they surviving in this crazy climate without a fan? I was like, maybe Macedonian already became rich enough to buy an air-con more than a fan, so they do not buy a fan, no demand for a fan, because they see it as outdated technology or something. Well, then, they might be richer than NY's low income family. But NO... it was not the reason. It is just because there is no trade route to import fans to Macedonia, even though shops are eager to sell. Hmmm, sounds like a very Macedonian-like reason.
Then, there, in the small Albanian general merchandise store, someone assembles a fan one by one as they receive the order. According to them, they import parts directly from China (as an individuals basis). Well, it must be they are making very good business out from this, even they are selling one by one, not massively selling out although there are huge potential demand. There is almost no competition for the fan market in Skopje.
