rice cooker?

There are no rice cookers in this country, but there are potato cookers.

For a Japanese girl who needs a rice cooker in any country she resides, the fact that only potato cookers exist in this country was funny enough.

cars in skopje

I am thinking to buy a car. Even everything is in walking distance, it would be still nice to have a car so that I can stay more active in the area.
There are cute cars in Skopje. It is like Paris. Many cars are "petite" like Peugeot 206, Citroen C2, Fiat Punto, Alfa 147, Renault etc.... All new and cute. I was told that air in Skopje is not so clean because there are many old cars. It is true in a way that air is no so clean, but there is less old cars than I imagined. There are paths that Macedonia has to take to join the EU. The effort of reducing exhaust gas is one of them. I guess that stricter rules might encourage Macedonian to buy a new car. The photo is not showing those new, cute cars, though. I just thought that it is kind of funny to see old cars lined up like this (from left; Yugo, Yugo, Russian). I guess that this Yugo is from old Yugoslavian days.

work started

Dobar den. It was my first day at work. This is the office buliding. Just to let you know that I am not chilling all the time. I work sometime.

turkish cafe in my neighborhood

Due to risk management reasons, I can not show my apartment to be on the web, but instead, I will introduce you to a cute turkish cafe, Rezet, in my neighborhood. They serve not only turkish coffee, but also turkish pipe. Very hip, very ethnic. Macedonia has a history of once being controlled by the Ottoman Empire in the 14th Century, so you still see some Turkish influence some places. It makes me feel like I should check out Turkey someday, which is just a 1.5 hour flight away from Skopje.

http://www.inatomi.jp/

near macedonian square

It seems that 'hanging out at a cafe with friends' is a major form of entertainment for Macedonians. No wonder there are bunches of cafes near Macedonian Square, which is the center of Skopje. They hang out there after lunch before dinner. Lunch time in Macedonia is after work, like 4 or 5pm.
There is good coffee and tea, like cappuccino, espresso, herb tea, or whatever, which is a lot relief to me. There is even Macedonian tea, which tastes like a mix of mint and camomille(I guess).

more photo of Skopje

From the other side of the river, which runs across the city.
Mountain side has more buildings, more people, more activities.
My apartment will be in that side.
Due to light reflection, it is hard to see it, but there is a big cross on the mountain. Macedonian Orthodox is major religion here.

from macedonia

So, I am in Skopje, Macedonia.
Very nice weather. Not steamy like NY or Tokyo at all.
Skopje is a small city. Most of main attractions are in walking distance.
Lots of cafe along with the river.

Started to look for an apartment.
It seems there are lots of nice ones.

preparation for macedonia

testing, testing....

since i will be the first japanese girl who works at macedonian govenment for more than 1 year, i think that i should create some information site so that others can get to know more about macedonia.

the photo is not macedonia. it is just testing the upload activity. this is a photo from Amanpulo in the Philippines.
