It seems Belgrade is getting better. There are more choices of nice, cool restaurants, I guess.

ベオ参りしてきました。なんだかベオったらだんだんいいカンジになりつつあるかも。ナイスなレストランとか増えてる?!　もしかして。

sheep

Sheep walking and crossing a road like this is very common scene in Balkan. It happens even near the capital city... I, an urban Japonka, had never seen sheep this close except in a zoo until I came in this region.

こんな風に羊の群れが道路を歩いてたり渡ってたりとかっていう風景は実はバルカンではめずらしくありません。首都の近くでもよくありますから。都会育ちちゃんには、動物園以外の場所で生の羊をこんなに近くで見るなんて機会、ここに来るまでありませんでした。

tank blockers

On the way to St. Prohor Pcinski from Vranje, you will find these triangle-shape concrete blocks. Apparently they are tank blockers used during the war (eh, the recent war?)... sounds like very much a sight of Serbia.

セルビアのヴラニエからプロホール・プチンスキに行く途中にこんな三角のコンクリートブロックをいっぱい見かけました。なにかと思ったら、戦争中に使われた「戦車よけ」だって。セルビアって戦車とか最近までうろうろしてたんだよなあ、そういえば。んー、セルビアならではの風景ってカンジ。

st. prohor pcinski

After banja, it is nice to stop by this monastery in Serbian territory, but very significant for Macedonian history. St. Prohor Pcinski monastery is the place at which the establishment of Macedonia as a state was declared in 1944. It was just 10 min drive away from Macedonian border...but now it is in Serbia after the breakdown of the former Yugoslavia. It looks similar to the monastery in Kriva Palanka. There must be some stories behind it also.

温泉に行った後はこの｢セント・プロホール・プチンスキ」修道院に寄ってみるのも楽しいです。いまはセルビアの領土にありますが、マケドニアにとっては非常に大事な歴史的節目を飾った場所であったりします。1944年にマケドニアがState設立を宣言した場所、とでもいいましょうか。でもいまや旧ユーゴスラビアの崩壊とともにセルビアの領土内に入ることに線引きされてしまいました。マケドニアの国境から車で10分くらいなんですけどね。この修道院はクリバパランカの修道院にタイプが似ています。きっとそこにもなんらかの歴史的、宗教的背景があるんでしょうね。。。

vranjska banja, serbia

There is such a thing called banja (hot spring or onsen) in Balkan. For Japanese, going to onsen is a part of culture not only for old people, but also for young people for a weekend trip or whatever, so, I had to go and check what a Balkan onsen is like. My image was something like warm water that people need to wear swim suits to be in, but this hot spring near Vranje was different. It is a very hot (97C) sulfur spring, so you can take a real bath and even you can make onsen tamago (boiled eggs). What is different from Japanese onsen is the part that you have to fill a tub by yourself and to bring your own towls. Very much self-service. There is no fancy atmosphere that Japanese would expect to onsen like relaxing in a classic wooden tub or an open-air bath, but for those people who like to just take a bath with hot spring water, it seems ok place to enjoy taking an onsen bath. Vranjska banja is just 1.5 hours drive away from Skopje.

バルカンには｢バニャ｣といわれるいわゆる温泉があります。ここはひとつ日本人としてはやはり温泉はチェックしておかないといけないかしらと思い、セルビアのヴラニエ温泉というところに行ってきました。スコピエから車で一時間半くらい。私のイメージではバルカンの温泉って水着で入るようなぬるいプールみたいなモノって感じだったのですが、ここのヴラニエの温泉は硫黄系の97Cの熱湯が出るかなり本格的な温泉でした。温泉タマゴも作れるほど。日本の温泉となにが違うかっていうと個室のバスタブに自分でお湯を入れるところと自分タオルを持っていくこと、かな。まあ、日本人が温泉に対して期待する｢のんびり｣｢リラックス｣とかいい雰囲気とかなにもないけれど、温泉のお湯に入るのが好きな人にはけっこうアリなのではないでしょうか。

rolling stones in belgrade

It happens to be when I was in Belgrade was the one day before of the Rolling Stones' concert in Belgrade. It was a big thing in Balkan, I guess. It was a topic in Macedonia too. I felt it also when I was in Belgrade, because people talk about it all the time - like taxi drivers, and there were lots of securities everywhere. The photo shows the venue of the concert, of which field was specially made for this purpose, because the originally planned venue, a stadium, was disapproved by an animal rights NGO by saying the "noises" scare the horses that are held behind the stadium. Before, there was a hill and trees in that field. But, now it was flattened out and constructing the stage. The photo left is in the morning of Friday, and the right is late afternoon. Serbians were working really hard for Rolling Stones.

ちょうどベオ出張に行った日がローリングストーンズがベオグラードでコンサートをやる一日前の日だったので、なんかしらちょっと街が盛り上がってました。まあベオに限らずバルカンにとっての大イベントですから。マケドニアでもけっこう前から話題になってましたし。たまたまコンサート会場がうちのベオのオフィスの裏だったので、準備状況がよく見えてました。もともとは大きなスタジアムでの開催が企画されていたのですが、そのスタジアムの裏に飼われている馬がローリングストーンズの「騒音」で怖がるからダメだと主張するNGOがいたため、急遽会場変更となり、このコンサートのためだけに丘と木を切り開いて作った会場が写真のところ。写真左はコンサート一日前の朝、右は午後。はじめ見たときには間に合わないんじゃないかと思ったけど、なかなかちゃくちゃくと会場施設が建設されていました。

white city

Due to foggy situation in Belgrade, I could not fly to Skopje last night. White city (meaning of "Belgrade" in Serbian), indeed. Yesterday, it was really white everywhere, no visibility at all. Today, it is better.

霧のため、飛行機が飛ばなくてスコピエに帰れませんでした。昨日の夜はベオの街中が霧で真っ白。「白い街(ベオグラードのセルビア語の意味)」とはよく言ったものです。今日はちょっとクリアになってきました。

first official trip to belgrade

Since our office in Belgrade finally opened, I had a chance to visit there, where the Danube and Sava meet. It was also the chance to experience the famous cold wind of Belgrade. Pfff, it was really cold.

ちっとベオグラード出張。この寒い中、有名なベオの風も経験してきました。風が吹くとめっちゃ寒いんですよ、体感的に。
