Il Caffe di Roma seems one of the coffee chains from western countries like Segafredo. But a good part is it has fruit smoothies on the menu, which is not many cafes offer in Skopje.

「イル・カフェ・ディ・ローマ」はたぶんどっかの西欧系のチェーンのカフェではないかと思うのですが、フルーツスムージーがあるのがポイント高しです。スコピエのカフェでスムージーとかあるとこってあんまりないからね。

fiskalna smetka - broz cafe

One of my favorite cafes, Broz Cafe, got the fiskalna smetka penalty. Boo... Now it will be closed for a while. But, Broz Cafe, having a good sense of humor and style, puts the posters and signs outside saying "we are on involuntary vacation" in a good designed manner to tell its loyal customers that it is closed. I like it. Bastion and Nobu did not do anything when they got the penalty.

わたしのお気に入りカフェ「ブロズ・カフェ｣がフィスカルナ・スメトカの罰則をくらってしまいました。ちっ、これでしばらくまたお気に入りカフェが閉まっちゃうぜ。でもブロズ・カフェのクールなところは、外にポスターとかサインとか出して「停職処分中」とかいって、ちゃんとお客様にお知らせしているところ。けっこうきちんとデザインもよく出来ていて、ユーモアのセンスもデザインのセンスも二重丸。前にバスティオンとかノブがおんなじ罰則くらったときになんにもしていなかったのを見ると、ブロズ・カフェの方がわたし的にはポイント高しだな。

soul pub

Soul Pub is a new cafe & restaurant that plays soul music. In Macedonia, usually cafebars do not serve food, but lately, like Sopotsko and this Soul Pub, there are some emerging market of the cafes that serve both snacks and coffee&drinks with cosy interior decoration. Things are getting better. If I may ask more, it will be even better if all cafe adapt the non-smoking rule.

「ソウルパブ」は最近オープンしたカフェ・レストランです。マケドニアではカフェでは通常食べ物を出さないのですが、このところ、ソポツコといい、ここといい、気持ちのいい空間でコーヒーとかドリンクとかと軽食と両方楽しめるところが出来てきました。助かります。これでさらにカフェが全面禁煙とかになってくれれば、ますますいいんですけどねえ。。。

sopotsko

Sopotsko is a meze bar for arty people. Musicians or artists are regular customers. It is in the building that has an old European architecture taste near a city park in Skopje. There is no sign outside of the building, so, only those who know the place would come. Well, maybe that is why the atmosphere there is a bit hideaway. The interior is well designed by using the old European style architecture as well as nice natural lighting from the windows. It is recommended to go there during the daylight.

「ソポツコ」はちょっとオシャレな人に最近人気のメーゼ(おつまみ)バーです。公園の近くにあるヨーロッパ風の建物に入っていて、どこにもお店の名前が出ていないので、場所がわかりにくく、ちょっと隠れ家的でいいカンジです。来ている人もちょっと普通の人じゃなくてアーティストとかミュージシャンとかが多いです。だからなのか、お店の雰囲気がなんとなくいいんですよね。それとも、ヨーロッパ風の建築を活かしたインテリアデザインがいいのか。自然光がいっぱい入る窓がいい味出しているんですよね。昼間に行くのがお勧めです。

trk kafe

Trk Cafe is the first cafe ever in SKopje which specializes in "take-out" coffee. Oooooh. There was no such a concept "coffee to go" in Macedonia except at few cafe like Broz Cafe, but now, the situation has changed. Opening of Trk Cafe is an very epoch-making event in this summer. It has even frappuccino kind, which is also the first kind in Skopje. It is off the Macedonian street.

トゥルクカフェはマケドニアで初のテイクアウトコーヒー専門カフェです。いままでマケドニアには「テイクアウトコーヒー」というコンセプトが(ブロズカフェなどの少数を除いて)存在していなかったのですが、この夏とうとう! 　コーヒーのテイクアウトが気軽に出来るようになりました。いえーい。というわけで、トゥルクカフェのオープニングはこの夏一番の画期的なイベントでした。なんと、フラペチーノまであるんですよー。それもマケドニア初なんですー。

ljubov

My favorite Cafe Ljubov is a sister cafe of my favorite restaurant Poveke Ljubov (although it is closed now for a while). Since it is more than 40C outside lately, it is better to have a coffee inside. Ljubov has a nice taste of interior decoration; chic, relaxing, and cozy. And it plays nice taste of music; jazzy, mostly. The location is a bit hideaway, which is also what I like about.

カフェ「リュボヴ」は私のお気に入りレストラン「ポベキェ・リュボブ」の姉妹カフェです。ここ最近40度以上の酷暑が続いている中、やっぱお外コーヒーは出来ないので、中でお茶するってカンジです。リュボブはナイスなインテリアが落ち着くんですよねえ。場所もちょっと隠れ家っぽいし。ジャズ系音楽もセンスいいし。まあ、お気に入りカフェのひとつです。

lezet's summer menu

I was complaining about no more smoothie in Skopje because Pastis was gone, but now I found Lezet's summer menu offering good smoothies. Since Lezet does not have open air space, there are less people going there during summer- that is why this smoothie menu, I guess. Good marketing. I will go as long as the summer menu is there. It serves also a very nice fruits plate. I am the right target of Lezet.

パスティスがなくなっちゃったんで、スコピエにはスムーチーが飲めるところはないとぶつぶつ言っていましたが、なんとうちのご近所カフェ「レゼット」が夏のメニューとしてスムーチーをやっていることを発見。大きなフルーツプレートとかもあり、けっこううれしいかも。レゼットってオープンエアのスペースがないからけっこう夏向きカフェじゃないんだよね。だからスムーチーか。グッドマーケティング。私はスムーチーがある限り通うぞ。

krug

Opened in this summer, Krug has been becoming my favorite cafe. I like its cozy space with natural light and music, the jazzy kind (of course). There is even a live jazz band at Friday night. Funny thing is, in its cozy space, some work of Gregory Colbert is featured. I am not sure it is legally adopted, but it is ok, I like the concept. Gregory Colbert is one of my favorite artists, whose exhibition in NY, 2005, "Ashes and Snow" at the nomadic museum created by Shigeru Ban, was breathtakingly beautiful. I was lucky to be in NY at that time.

最近お気に入りになりつつあるカフェ「クルグ」、もちろん音楽はJazzyなヤツがかかってます。照明を落として自然光を使ったカフェの空間がまたいい感じなんですけど、なんとカベにグレゴリー・コルベールの作品が。これって合法的なフィーチャーだとはとっても思えないけど、まあ、美しいので許しましょう、って感じ。グレゴリー・コルベールは私の好きなアーティストの一人で、彼のNYでのエキシビション 「Ashes and Snow」は本当に素晴らしかった。日本にも来春に行くらしいので、ぜひお勧めです。

nana

Nana opened few days ago. I was checking out the place long before its opening because it has a nice, cozy, cute look outside. It is on the Macedonian Square, very good location. It is a small (wine) cafe, also serving light meals like salads and sandwiches. All dishes I tried are good so far. The interior decoration and layout is nice too. Cute and cozy. I am glad that I have got another new lunch place for me, with the rating of "super". Too bad there is no soup on the menu, though.
By the way, seeing from the series of new openings of cafe and restaurants in these few months, I guess the economic situation in Macedonia has been getting better apparently. Those Nana and Sushi Bar kinds are not cheap-ish place. It requires some capital to establish and keep that level of the quality standard. Also, requires strong purchasing power of people to support the business. Hm. Good for them. I hope it will last long....

数日前にオープンした「ナナ」はマケドニア広場の真ん中にある抜群のロケーションにあります。工事中の頃から、なんとなく外見がかわいかったのでちょっとチェックしてたんですよね。オープン したので早速行ってきました。インテリアもかわいくて心地のいい空間。カフェなんだけど、軽い食事も出すカンジ。サラダとかサンドイッチとかがメニューにあります。トライしたものはみんなおいしくて「超合格」です。また新しい「マイランチ」場ができて、うれしい限りです。スープがメニューにないのが残念だけど。
それにしても、ここ最近、こう立て続けに新しいカフェやらレストランやらがオープンしているのを見ると、マケドニアの経済状況も上向いてきているのかしら、って感触ですね。長続きするといいのですけど。

blue cafe

Blue Café is one of my few favourite café in Skopje. The best is Bastion, of course, and then Broz Café that has nice sandwiches and café "to go", which is very rare in Skopje. Blue Café is a Greek café chain and I am usually not in favor of chain stuff, but this one is ok. Compared to the cafés for the general public along with the river, which all look same to me by the way; no appealing feature, it earns a high point that Blue café is located on a street rather quiet even though it is close to the Macedonian Square. And it has nice sofa and several kinds of good ice cream parfait. "Yummy" points plus. There is even the wireless internet access available for someone who carries a computer all the time.

ブルーカフェは、数少ない私のお気に入りカフェのうちのひとつです。一番のお気に入りはバスティオン。その次はブロズカフェ。スコピエではまれな、サンドイッチやコーヒーのテイクアウトがあるところがお気に入り。そしてこのブルーカフェ。ブルーカフェはギリシア資本のチェーン系カフェで、通常だったらチェーン系はあんまり好きでない私ですが、まあ、このブルーカフェはOK。まずロケーションがいい。マケドニア広場のすぐ近くにありながら、一本道を入ったところにあるので、比較的静か。川沿いのずらっとならんだ個性のない大衆カフェよりはぜんぜんいい。そして、ソファ席がいっぱいあるところと、アイスパフェがけっこういろんな種類があっておいしいところがポイント高し。

bastion

I have not mentioned about my favorite cafe in Skopje. After six months living in Skopje, I finally figure out how to pick "my" cafe from many choices of cafe spread all over in Skopje. First of all, Bastion plays my kind of music, like jazzy stuff, i.e. U.F.O or Mondo Grosso or Rebirth of Cool kinds-. Second of all, it serves "right" Capuccino, which means without whipped cream, as most of other cafe serve with, if I do not specify. That Bastion has cosy open-air space with nice woody chairs is also a big point. And watching people who come to Bastion is fun. Many of them have styles. So, again, a beautiful, sunny day like today, it is nice to have an afternoon coffee at Bastion.

6ヶ月もスコピエにいると、ようやくお気に入りの「マイ」カフェってヤツが出てくるもんです。私のお気に入りはこの「バスティオン」。スコピエに数限りなくあるカフェの中でなぜバスティオンなのかというと、まずバスティオンでかかっている音楽がいい。いつもU.F.Oやモンドグロッソ系のJazzyな音楽がかかっていて気持ちいい。第二に、バスティオンのカプチーノは正当カプチーノである。他のカフェではたいていわざわざ指示しない限り、カプチーノのフォームの部分が生クリームだったりする邪道かつ甘いカプチーノがでてきたりする。第三に、こじんまりとしたオープンエアスペースがあるからお外コーヒーが気持ちいい。そしてバスティオンにやってくる人たちがこれまたこじゃれた人たちが多いので、目の保養になる。そんなこんなでまた今日みたいないい天気の日曜の午後は、お外カフェが気持ちいいんです。。。

Oh my god, very cool place opened in my neighborhood. It is a jazz lounge with the very well designed interior, which creates very relaxing, cozy atmosphere. You can spend nice time here with good Macedonian wine and good conversations with good company. This one could be in the NY night scene like one of those in the meat packing district, and survive in the fierce competitions. Seeing from their good taste of creating the floor, I can expect the lineup of the guest jazz musicians would be good. We will see.

なんとうちのご近所にめっちゃクールなジャズラウンジがオープン。まじでかなりイケていて、それこそNYのミートパッキングエリアにでも新しくオープンしそうな感じのラウンジ。こじゃれたインテリアが心地よくって、つい長居してしまう気持ちのいい空間。マケドニアワインでもゆったりと飲みながら会話を楽しめるオトナのお店かも。どんなゲストジャズミュージシャンが来るのか、今後が楽しみですな。

broz cafe

I like this Broz Cafe because it is like a joke in a way that reminds me some Starxxxxs cafe, from which I had a coffee in every morning when the last time I was in Tokyo for 2 months. Even it is not a joke, Broz Cafe serves good coffee and sweets and sandwich as Starbucks, and all of them are its original. And there is "take out", which usually I do not see at other cafe. It is a cool place.

けっこうこのスターバックスもどきのブロズカフェも私はけっこう好き。もどきなんて失礼かも。だってコーヒーもデザートもサンドイッチもちゃんとおいしいし、すべてオリジナルだし。しかも普通のカフェでは見たことのない「テイクアウト」だって出来る。よく出来てんのよ。

a bakery - stella

Another favorite spot in my neighborhood is Stella. It is a bakery with full of desserts. They are not too sweet and not too big as some sweets in NY. People come after another to buy cakes for take out. There is cozy space with nice interior design. You can have a coffee and a cake there unlike usual cafes that do not serve cakes.

お気に入りのご近所デザート屋はステラ。甘すぎず大きすぎない、ちゃんとおいしいケーキを売っています。お客さんがひっきりなしにケーキを買いに来る。かわいい家具で埋められた店内は快適な雰囲気で、長時間お茶していてもいい感じ。世の中の普通のカフェはドリンクだけだけど、お茶とケーキしたいときにはステラがいい。

meeting at my place

There are so many cafe in Skopje as hang out spots. Since there are too many, you do not know which cafe you should go. But it seems there are some cafe you need to check out as trend magazines say. That kinds of cafe are always full with young people or teens and loud with music. For not so young people like our age, maybe it is better to go for quieter place. And so, we (I and my co-workers) use a cafe called "my place" as a meeting place. It is very quiet and nicely decorated like the bar of the Tribeca Grand of NY. It is definitely for grown-ups who want to enjoy conversations. You are invited to come to my place.

スコピエにはいっぱいカフェがありすぎていったいどこに行くのが「イマドキ」なのかよく分かんないのですが、それはそれで雑誌とかでイマドキのカフェ特集とかあるらしい。若い子とかティーンズとかは雑誌でそういう情報はちゃんとチェックしていて、そういうカフェに行くので、そういうカフェは若い子でいっぱいだし音楽がんがんかかっていて騒がしい。騒がしいのが苦手なもうそんなに若くない人たちはどこに行くかっていうと、そんなに若くない人たちが行く用のカフェもちゃんとあるんです。うちのチームがよく使うのはカフェ「My Place」。静かだし、こじゃれたインテリアでいい感じだし。ちゃんと話が出来るのがいい。オトナの店ですな。

turkish cafe in my neighborhood

Due to risk management reasons, I can not show my apartment to be on the web, but instead, I will introduce you to a cute turkish cafe, Rezet, in my neighborhood. They serve not only turkish coffee, but also turkish pipe. Very hip, very ethnic. Macedonia has a history of once being controlled by the Ottoman Empire in the 14th Century, so you still see some Turkish influence some places. It makes me feel like I should check out Turkey someday, which is just a 1.5 hour flight away from Skopje.

アパート決まりました。
安全管理的理由から写真は載せられませんが、その代わりにご近所のかわいいトルコカフェをご紹介。
めっちゃ素敵なので、こりゃ本物のトルコにも行かなきゃなりませんなあ、と思わされます。スコピエから飛行機で一時間半くらいで行けちゃうんです。
マケドニアは一時オスマントルコの支配下にあったこともあって、いまだにところどころにその面影を見ることが出来ます。
